OSRS Hardcore Worlds are scheduled for 4 November 2026. Start a new character in a separate, permanent economy with ordinary trading and Grand Exchange access, normal experience and drop rates, and one life per attempt. Death ends the Hardcore run; you then choose a complete reset or a one-way transfer to the main game.

Use this guide to distinguish the launch rules from ordinary Hardcore Ironman, understand the reset decision and prepare a route that values survival. Launch plans can still change; exact world numbers, launch time and membership details are not confirmed here.

How to join

On a fresh Tutorial Island character, find Death’s Delegate near the Magic Instructor and Ironman Tutor. Visit Death’s Office and accept the challenge. Complete the starting process before beginning your mainland route.

Death: reset and transfer are different decisions

The death first follows normal item-protection rules, including Wilderness exceptions. Items otherwise destined for a gravestone are permanently lost.

Choice

What happens

Reset

All character progress and items, including protected items, are erased. You can reset repeatedly.

Transfer

The character leaves Hardcore Worlds permanently. Protected items, bank contents and other stored items are retained.

Transfer moves this character; it is not an announced system for merging its levels, quests or bank into an existing main. Check the death interface before confirming either choice. Transferring does not restore items already lost in the death.

Unsafe activities and limited exceptions

Deaths count in Barbarian Assault, Camelot Training Room, Chambers of Xeric, Lunar Diplomacy’s Dream World, Fishing Trawler, Inferno, Magic Training Arena, Nightmare Zone, Pest Control, Random Events, Rogues’ Den, Fight Caves and your POH.

Exceptions include Castle Wars, Clan Wars, Soul Wars, Fight Pit, Koschei’s fourth duel phase, and the applicable elite-diary resurrection benefits at Fight Caves and Zulrah. Those resurrection benefits do not make every subsequent death safe.

Practise difficult encounters on a separate ordinary account. Do not assume a familiar HCIM activity is safe here, and do not treat entering a minigame as a substitute for checking its death rule. A normal-account walkthrough can teach the mechanic while using death assumptions that do not apply to Hardcore Worlds.

Prepare a survival route before a speed route

Preparation

Practical action

Quest route

Read the combat encounters and escape limits before starting. Take the required food, equipment and route items.

Defensive margin

Develop Hitpoints, Defence and protection-prayer access around the actual encounter. Do not replace useful defence solely to copy a maximum-damage setup.

Travel

Prepare an unlocked teleport and check where it works. Keep the escape easy to find during a fight.

Supplies

Bring food, Prayer restoration and the exact poison or other protection the route requires.

Equipment

Equip the complete set at the bank; confirm attack style, ammunition, runes and charges.

Connection

Avoid starting an unfamiliar dangerous encounter when the connection or device is unstable. An escape item is support, not a guarantee against death.

Every starter receives an escape crystal. Proposed changes include a lower price and status-effect clearing; check the implemented item behaviour before relying on them.

Use the quest progression guide, Prayer guide and travel guide to prepare specific unlocks. For a boss project, read the PvM progression guide and the selected encounter’s instructions, then separately confirm the Hardcore Worlds death consequences.

A fresh economy does not guarantee a profitable method

Food, runes, herbs and equipment are plausible early supply projects, but their value depends on actual demand, availability and competition. Treat those as possible activities, not a price forecast. Normal XP rates also mean gathering and processing take real time.

Compare the whole process: obtaining resources, processing them, travelling and selling. Low trade volume can make a displayed price difficult to realise. Keep a survival reserve instead of spending every coin on materials whose demand has not yet developed.

An economy that permits trading does not by itself establish rules for cross-economy gold swapping. Check applicable rules before assuming an arrangement is supported. Likewise, do not infer specific membership or Bond arrangements from ordinary-world access.

Creator factions, broadcasts and launch details

Creator factions and world-first competition are part of the announced plans. The complete faction arrangements, achievement list and possible rewards need their own confirmed details. Do not build a route around an assumed faction advantage or prize.

Bounty Hunter and Last Man Standing are disabled initially. The announced World Switcher overhaul is planned for late November, separately from launch.

Before you begin

Confirm the live launch information, start the correct character, read the death and transfer decisions, and choose one manageable early objective. Recheck the route whenever new equipment or a quest introduces a different risk. The useful first milestone is a repeatable routine with an escape and supply reserve, rather than a rushed checkpoint that depends on everything going perfectly.
